The most frequent questions about the Bernard beer spa: everything in

The Bernard beer spa is one of the most original wellness experiences in Prague, but at the same time there is a lot of confusion surrounding it. People are not sure what is actually in the bath, what to take with them, for whom the procedures are suitable or how to best prepare to get the most out of the experience. In this article, we answer the most common questions, but we go beyond just a brief yes or no. For each answer, we explain why things work the way they do and add practical tips you won't find anywhere else.

Are we really bathing in beer? What's in the tub?

This question is by far the most common, and the answer is a surprise for many. You don't bathe in raw beer in a beer bath , for several reasons that make perfect sense.

The beer tub holds approximately 400 liters of liquid. Filling it with full-fledged beer would make the procedure more expensive than the current price. But mainly, a bath in alcohol and carbon dioxide in large quantities would not help the body, rather the opposite. In addition, raw beer has a natural temperature of around 6 °C, so it would be very difficult to relax in it.

the Bernard Beer Spa uses a special beer mixture that was developed directly in cooperation with the Bernard Brewery . This mixture contains the same amount of hops and raw materials from which beer is made, but it is free of carbon dioxide and alcohol . Only substances that really benefit the skin will remain in the bath: group B vitamins, antioxidants from hops, enzymes from yeast and other effective ingredients .

Beer as a drink comes into play completely separately: each bath has its own faucet from which guests pour Bernard beer throughout the procedure. The experience works on two levels at the same time: the beer mixture takes care of the skin from the outside, and Bernard beer refreshes it from the inside .

How does the whole procedure go step by step?

Many people come to the spa for the first time and do not know what exactly awaits them. Knowing in advance what the procedure looks like goes a long way to actually enjoying it instead of spending the first part getting oriented.

Upon arrival, we recommend that you arrive 15 minutes before the reserved date . At the beginning, the staff will explain everything you need, show you the premises and answer any questions you may have. After that, she will leave you alone and only come when you call her from outside.

The procedure itself has two parts:

●      Bathing in a beer bath takes place in warm water at a temperature of 36 °C, while you can regulate the temperature yourself during the process. The bathtub is designed for two people and each one has a tap with unlimited Bernard beer on tap.

●      Relaxation on the heated bed follows immediately after the bath. At this moment, the body is warmed up, the skin is open and the beneficial substances from the beer mixture continue to act on the skin. Resting on a heated bed prolongs and deepens this phase. Overall, the basic procedure takes approximately 60 minutes

If you have ordered a massage , it comes as a third part and the total time is extended according to the length of the massage.

Each room is 100% private . The premises are disinfected after each guest, so hygiene is comparable to the standards of a classic wellness facility.

Who is a beer bath suitable for and when is it better to wait?

Bernard Beer Spa is suitable for the vast majority of adults , but there are several groups for which specific recommendations or restrictions apply.

●      Children accompanied by adults can complete the procedure on condition that they do not consume alcohol and adults take full responsibility for them

●      Pregnant women should consult a gynecologist in advance, because every pregnancy is different and the body's reaction to a warm bath may vary.

●      People with skin diseases do not have to skip the procedure, on the contrary, in such cases, it can be completed more often than once a month , because the active substances from hops and yeast can pleasantly soothe irritated skin

●      Persons with cardiovascular problems or high blood pressure should consult a doctor in advance, as a warm bath increases blood flow and can affect blood pressure

●      People with a gluten-free diet can come without worries and receive an unlimited amount of Bernard 12° gluten-free bottled beers for free.

In general, if you have doubts about your health, a short consultation with a doctor in advance is always a better option than unnecessarily renouncing the experience.

What to take with you and how to prepare?

The good news is that you don't have to bring practically anything . Towels, sheets and slippers are available directly on site. But if you want to customize the experience even more, a few things are worth mentioning.

●      Own swimwear is optional , not mandatory. If you bring them, bet on darker shades . Light and white swimsuits may show slight discoloration from hop pigments after contact with the beer mixture during the first wash.

●      Jewelry and watches should be left at home or put away before the procedure, as contact with the beer mixture can affect some metals and materials

●      You can take your mobile phone and camera into the spa and take pictures , but be aware that you will be in contact with water. A waterproof case or caution when handling pays off

●      to the procedure fully fed . A too full stomach in combination with a warm bath and beer can be unpleasant. A lighter meal an hour or two before arrival is ideal

●      You cannot take your own food or drink with you, consumption of your own drinks and food is prohibited on the premises. Refreshments can be ordered directly from the offer of the on-site spa

Beer, massages and additional services

The unlimited consumption of Bernard beer is truly unlimited , the guests pour it themselves and no one counts the glasses or measures the pace. It is Bernard beer on tap right by the bathtub.

Nevertheless, one common sense applies: the procedure lasts approximately 60 minutes and the body is warmed up with a warm bath. In such a state, alcohol is absorbed faster than usual. The experience is much more pleasant if it is drunk sparingly and with enough water.

In the case of massages , each participant in the massage procedure will receive an individual massage from a certified masseuse lasting 20 or 60 minutes . All masseurs have long-term experience and certificates. It is not possible to select a gender or a specific person, erotic massages are not provided.

The massage is the natural end of the whole procedure and works very well precisely because the body is warmed up after the bath, the muscles are relaxed and the skin is soft. The masseur works with the body, which is in an ideal state for deep work with muscle tension.

Gift vouchers: how to order and use them?

Beer baths are one of the most popular experience gifts in Prague and the voucher system is straightforward.

●      The voucher can be purchased directly in the e-shop on the Bernard Pivní lázně website

●      When reserving an appointment, the voucher number is entered at the end of the order in the field for the payment method

●      Always check the validity of the voucher in advance and give the recipient enough time to choose a date, especially if you are planning a visit in busy tourist months

Regarding the cancellation conditions , the reservation can be canceled free of charge up to 24 hours before the planned start , in writing to the address info@pivnilaznebernard.cz. In case of later cancellation, the prepaid amount will be used as a cancellation fee in full. If you know that the date may not work, it is always better to cancel ahead of time.

What not to forget after the procedure?

This is one of the things that is most often forgotten, although it is essential for the final effect of the procedure. In order to keep the feeling of "rebirth" as long as possible, you must not take a shower before twelve hours.

The reason is simple: the beneficial substances from the beer mixture, group B vitamins, antioxidants and enzymes, remain on the skin even after the bath and their effect continues for hours after the procedure. A shower would wash them off and shorten the time they last on the body.

If you are healthy and without skin problems, it is recommended to repeat the procedure approximately once a month for a long-term effect on the skin. In case of skin problems, the frequency can be increased as needed.

Spa as such appeared 4 thousand years ago in India. The ancient Chinese and Egyptians also knew about the beneficial effects of spa on the human body. The history of beer production dates back to the 7th millennium BC, when beer was discovered, probably by mistake, by the ancient Sumerians. They mistook the grain they were growing and the principle of fermentation was invented.

The connection between beer and baths is officially known from the Middle Ages, when the knowledge of the beneficial effects of bathing in beer was established from the sources. The preventive effects of beer baths and beer baths had already been discovered at this time.

History of beer and malt production

The history of beer production dates back to the 7th millennium BC, when beer was discovered, somewhat accidentally, by the ancient Sumerians. It was the method of making beer that began in the poor storage of the grain they grew. The grain was stored in earthenware vessels into which water was poured, and thus the principle of fermentation was discovered.

The production process has remained unchanged for centuries - everything starts with the milling of malt and the subsequent brewing of beer. The wort is then cooled and propagated yeast is used, followed by the main fermentation. This semi-finished beer is placed in beer tanks where the beer lies and matures. After the beer has lain and matured, it undergoes flint and microbiological filtration. This is where all beer lovers rejoice, as after these procedures the beer is bottled and shipped.
