The process of preparing a beer bath: from hops and yeast to the bath

For every beer bath in lázních Bernard has an elaborate production chain, which starts in the barley field and in the hop house and ends with a specially prepared beer mixture in the tub. It is a mixture that is not raw beer , but the result of precise cooperation with Pivovar Bernard : it is purified from carbon dioxide and alcohol. Only what the skin really needs will remain in the bath. Let's see how this whole process takes place from the very beginning and why every step of it matters.

Three raw materials that form the basis of the beer mixture

The beer mixture for the bath is based on three basic ingredients: hops, yeast and water . Each of them contributes in a different way, so it is worth understanding the role of each separately, even before we move on to the production process itself.

●      Hops bring antioxidants, essential oils and polyphenols with an anti-inflammatory effect, which form the core of the cosmetic effect of the entire bath.

●      Yeast is rich in B vitamins, zinc, selenium and enzymes that support the natural regeneration of the skin.

●      Water from springs with ideal properties influences how the individual components dissolve and how effectively the active substances are released into the resulting mixture.

These three raw materials also appear in ours in various forms and concentrations beer cosmetics : shampoos, soaps and creams that you can take home and thus prolong the regenerative effect of the bath and daily body care.

Hops and yeast: the main bearers of the effect

Hops and yeast are the raw materials that bear the brunt of the cosmetic effect of the beer bath.

Bernard beer is produced from the highest quality variety of Czech hops. The Czech Republic is one of the world's leading producers of hops, and its quality is directly reflected in the amount and profile of active substances in the beer mixture. Hop essential oils and polyphenols protect the skin from free radicals, alpha acids have natural antibacterial properties, and the aroma of hops has a calming effect on the nervous system, which contributes to overall relaxation during the procedure. This combination of physical and psychological relaxation is one of the reasons why guests describe a feeling of deep relaxation after a bath, which is different from a normal bath at home.

Pivovar Bernard cultivates its own yeast, which guarantees a consistent composition and a repeatable profile of the resulting mixture. Beer spas are especially important because they are an extremely rich source of B vitamins, specifically B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B9 , and they also contain zinc, selenium and amino acids that support the renewal of skin cells. In addition, the enzymes present in the yeast help to gently remove dead cells from the surface of the skin, so the bath naturally works as a gentle peeling without the need for mechanical rubbing.

The combination of hops and yeast does not only affect one layer of the skin, but comprehensively, from the surface to the deeper layers, where the active substances reach thanks to open pores and increased blood circulation.

Preparation of the bath and correct dosage

In order for the bath to function as intended, the exact dosage of ingredients and the correct temperature are essential. The bath is filled with approximately 400 liters of warm water and beer mixture in a defined ratio and heated to 36 °C .

This temperature is not random. A value just below normal body temperature is ideal because:

●      It expands blood vessels and opens pores , thereby facilitating the penetration of active substances into the skin.

●      It improves the circulation of muscles and subcutaneous tissue , thereby contributing to the release of muscle tension.

●      It does not burden the body too much and does not lead to overheating even during a longer bath.

During the procedure, guests can regulate the temperature themselves by adding hot or cold water, because the optimal feeling is an individual matter. What one guest perceives as pleasantly warm may be too intense for another, and the possibility of regulation is therefore not only comfort, but a direct influence on the final effect.

The bath is followed by rest on a heated bed, where the body naturally relaxes and the absorbed substances continue to work. Total length of the bases the procedure is approximately 60 minutes , which is enough time for the body and mind to really rest.

What happens to the skin during and after the bath

As soon as the body is immersed in the beer mixture, several processes occur simultaneously. The heat opens the pores and allows B vitamins, amino acids and yeast enzymes to enter the skin, where they support its natural regeneration and hydration. Hop antioxidants and polyphenols neutralize free radicals and contribute to protection against premature aging. The aroma of hop essential oils also affects the nervous system and deepens general relaxation.

The effect of the bath can be deepened with an additional one massage , which can be ordered directly with the procedure. The body is warmed up after the bath and the muscles are relaxed, so the masseur works with the skin and tissues in ideal condition, the result is significantly more intense than would be possible without a previous bath.

Post-bath finish: why it's important

After the bath, it is essential not to shower before 12 hours. Active substances on the skin remain active even after leaving the bath and their effect continues. A shower would wash them away and significantly shorten the overall effect of the procedure. This fading after the bath is part of the purpose of the entire procedure, not just an additional recommendation.

Many guests therefore choose evening dates, when sleep naturally comes after a bath, 12 hours pass without having to solve anything. Morning refreshment after such a dinner is one of the most frequently mentioned pleasant surprises in reviews.

For those who want to prolong the effect for several days, we recommend ours beer cosmetics , which work on the same principle as the beer mixture in the bath, only in a concentrated form suitable for everyday use. You can find the whole offer in our e-shop .

History of beer baths

Spa as such appeared 4 thousand years ago in India. The ancient Chinese and Egyptians also knew about the beneficial effects of spa on the human body. The history of beer production dates back to the 7th millennium BC, when beer was discovered, probably by mistake, by the ancient Sumerians. They mistook the grain they were growing and the principle of fermentation was invented.

The connection between beer and baths is officially known from the Middle Ages, when the knowledge of the beneficial effects of bathing in beer was established from the sources. The preventive effects of beer baths and beer baths had already been discovered at this time.

History of beer and malt production

The history of beer production dates back to the 7th millennium BC, when beer was discovered, somewhat accidentally, by the ancient Sumerians. It was the method of making beer that began in the poor storage of the grain they grew. The grain was stored in earthenware vessels into which water was poured, and thus the principle of fermentation was discovered.

The production process has remained unchanged for centuries - everything starts with the milling of malt and the subsequent brewing of beer. The wort is then cooled and propagated yeast is used, followed by the main fermentation. This semi-finished beer is placed in beer tanks where the beer lies and matures. After the beer has lain and matured, it undergoes flint and microbiological filtration. This is where all beer lovers rejoice, as after these procedures the beer is bottled and shipped.
